The Kingston Lodge No: 1010

History

Kingston Lodge, one of the older lodges in the City of Kingston-upon-Hull, is nearly 150 years old, having been founded in 1864. It first met at the Royal Station Hotel but relocated several times before settling into premises in Osbourne Street until they were demolished by enemy action and in October 1947 a final move to 69, Beverley Road took place.

For many years the Lodge membership was predominately composed of professional men such as accountants, lawyers, and doctors, with a sprinkling of local businessmen and local government officials, but, in more recent times, a more cosmopolitan membership has evolved as society itself has evolved.

Throughout all these years, a strong commitment to the local community has remained constant, and today that support can be seen in the sponsorship of youthful football and boy's cricket. Support of local charities such as the Blind Institute, the Humber Rescue, and the restoration of York Minister regionally and many of the national charities.

It is a tradition of the Lodge that the master of the year selects a charity to support during his year in office and the charity currently supported is LifeLights which is a regional charity concerned with the provision of IT and Communication equipment to childrens' Hospices and also a charity dealing with the restoration of War Memorials.
